I'm thinking about Dearborn - how does that compare to downtown Detroit?

Answer 1 :
Dearborn is very nice but downtown is a little more busy. I would say yes to Dearborn they have some great hotels especially the Hyatt, I just was there last weekend. A++
Answer 2 :
There are many beautiful sights in downtown Detroit. They just rebuilt one, or two?, of the hotels are from what I've heard are beautiful. If your not working inside of the city then get your hotel in the city you'll be doing business in. Yes, Dearborns Hyatt is gorgeous but rather expensive. (unless your employer is popping for the hotel room, then GO! ) lol
Answer 3 :
I work downtown and Downtown Detroit is safe. I would advise staying at the Marriot in the GM Renaissance Center. They have shopping, restaurants and a movie theatre all within. Other than that, you could always stay at the casinos ($150 a night), or the Athenaeum Suites in Greektown. All in all, Downtown Detroit is better. More to do. During the day, the downtown area is bustling with white collar professional and they have plenty of upscale eateries and things to do. Dearborn is just OK for lodging. If you want to do much, there's not much to do. Lots of strip bars along the major strip in Dearborn.
Answer 4 :
I assume you are going to be working right downtown. Stay downtown. The Book Cadillac is a fantastic place, newly rehabbed from the basement to the roof. Very posh. But you can't go wrong with staying at the RenCen hotel. Great views of Canada. A wonderful place to eat on the roof and the Riverwalk is right outside the door. I don't recommend Dearborn just because you'll spend too much time in the car. The street system will confuse you and you could get lost. Ease your stress, stay downtown. It is very safe.
Answer 5 :
Yes stay downtown much better then dearborn.
Answer 6 :
Downtown pretty safe. I would just say don't go wandering around outside of downtown. Know where you going. and no this is no opinion I live in Detroit and I can tell you from experience.
Answer 7 :
Downtown Detroit is nice but very very busy. Dearborn is very nice and just a short drive if you don't want to be in the thick of the hustle and bustle just stay in west Dearborn though, the east side is a bit on the seedy side.
Answer 8 :
I live downtown, and its definetly the place to be, especially if your going to be in downtown Detroit for work.
